What Job Hunter is
Job Hunter is a free website that runs entirely in your browser. It has no database. Its only server code reads public job boards and passes AI requests through, and it never stores or logs anything about you. The person who runs the site can't see your data.
What it accesses, and why
- Gmail, read-only (
gmail.readonly), only if you choose to connect it: to find emails about your job applications and job alerts, so it can track each application's status and suggest jobs. It never sends, deletes, labels or changes email. - Its own app folder in your Google Drive (
drive.appdata): to save your settings, applications, recommended jobs, resumes and CV in one hidden file. It can't see any of your other Drive files. - Your name and email address (
openid,email,profile): to show who's signed in and to open emails in the right Gmail account.
Where your data goes
- Your data moves only between your browser and Google (Gmail, and the app folder in your Drive), except for the optional email alerts below.
- The built-in AI. To sort your emails, read job alerts, score openings and read your CV, short email snippets, job details and your CV text are sent through Job Hunter's AI function to Groq (with Google Gemini as a backup), only to get the answer back. The function checks that you're signed in, then passes the text straight through. Nothing is stored or logged. These are free AI services, and their own terms apply; free tiers may use what's sent to improve their models.
- To find openings, it reads public job listings from company job boards (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters, Workable, Recruitee, Workday). Those requests carry only the company and a role to search for, never your email, CV or anything else about you.
- The resume tailor builds your resume in your browser. PDF, Word, LaTeX and Open in ResumeFold download a file to your computer; for ResumeFold you import it there yourself. Nothing is uploaded.
- There are no analytics, ads, trackers or cookies. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone else.
- The sign-in token is kept in this browser tab only, so a reload keeps you signed in. It's gone when you close the tab, after about an hour, or when you sign out.
Email alerts (optional, off unless you turn them on)
If you turn on Email me when new jobs are ready (in setup or Settings → Routine), Job Hunter looks for jobs at your chosen time even while it's closed, and emails you what it finds. To do that, its server keeps, for your Google account only:
- your email address (from Google sign-in), your time zone and the days and time you chose;
- what matching needs: your target roles, level, job type, pay preference, locations, things to skip, your keywords, the skill names read from your CV, your minimum match and how many jobs a day, and the companies you follow;
- the jobs it has already found for you (so it never sends the same one twice), and the ones waiting for you to open the app.
It never keeps your CV text, anything from Gmail, or your applications. This is stored in a Redis database run for Job Hunter on Vercel and the emails are sent through Brevo (an email service). Turning alerts off, the Stop these emails link in any alert, or Delete all my data deletes all of it straight away.
Google API data
Job Hunter's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Gmail data is used only to show you your own job-search information. It isn't used for ads, isn't sold, and isn't read by people.
Your control
- Settings → Your data has Export my data and Delete all my data (which also deletes anything kept for email alerts).
- You can also remove the hidden app data in Google Drive → Settings → Manage apps.
- To remove access entirely, go to myaccount.google.com/permissions → Job Hunter → Remove access.
Terms
Job Hunter is provided free, as is, without warranty. Check every resume before you send it. You're responsible for what you submit to employers.
